Adelaide Airport has commenced the next stage of its 600 million AUD ‘Project Flight’ infrastructure upgrade and expansion project, designed to support the airport’s long-term aviation network plans through to 2050.
Earlier works have largely taken place behind the scenes, but construction activity will now become more visible to passengers. The expansion of the southern end of the check-in hall is underway, alongside plans for additional gates and aerobridges at both ends of the terminal.

The upgrade programme includes:
Check-in hall
The southern end of the check-in hall is being expanded by over 1,500 square metres, increasing capacity by 25 percent. In addition, all check-in equipment will be replaced with new technology.

Demolition of the southern ramp to the elevated road has begun, with valet and chauffeured vehicle services relocated.
Northern Terminal
The northern end of the terminal is being expanded by 10,000 square metres from early 2026, adding new domestic gate lounges, aerobridges and office space for aviation tenants.

Southern Terminal
Expansion of the southern end will increase its size by more than 5,500 square metres from early 2027, providing two new domestic gates and three regional gates.

Aircraft Parking
Up to nine additional aircraft parking positions will be created at both ends of the terminal over the next three years.
Security Screening
Security screening upgrades will be completed by the end of 2025. Six new passenger screening lanes are already operational, with body scanners and 3D x-ray systems being introduced for both passengers and checked baggage.
Enhancements to the terminal will also include a new international departures gate, upgraded gate seating, business hubs, a play space for children, and a sensory room for travellers with hidden disabilities.

Adelaide Airport Managing Director, Brenton Cox, said:Our passenger numbers are at record levels, and we are planning for that airline connectivity to continue to grow – so we are also continuing to deliver the infrastructure required to accommodate that growth.
Our expanded check-in space will incorporate the latest technology for check-in kiosks as well as more bag-drop facilities to create a more seamless process.
A new P2 outdoor car park has opened ahead of the reduction in long-term spaces caused by the construction of new aircraft stands. The airport is also exploring options for upgrading its pick-up and drop-off zones and increasing parking capacity.
