The San Diego County Regional Airport Authority has contracted AECOM to provide programme management services for a series of major projects at San Diego International Airport (SAN).
As part of the airport’s Capital Improvement Plan, these projects aim to modernise the airport’s infrastructure, enhance accessibility, and implement sustainable practices to meet increasing travel demands.
At the core of these initiatives is the 3.8 billion USD New Terminal 1 (NT1) programme, which is the largest project in the airport’s history.
The NT1 redevelopment will include a new entrance road to provide quicker access to the airport, as well as new bicycle lanes and a pedestrian path connecting the airport with nearby communities. It will also include space for a future direct connection to the region’s public transportation network, further enhancing accessibility.
In addition to this significant protect, AECOM will also oversee the modernisation of Terminal 2 East (T2E). Together, these initiatives are set to revolutionise the passenger experience and transform SAN into a more efficient and sustainable airport.
Mark Southwell, Chief Executive of AECOM’s Global Transportation business said:We are thrilled to help deliver the revitalised San Diego International Airport and support the Authority’s vision for the future. Recognised by Engineering News-Record as the number one transportation design firm, we look forward to collaborating with the Authority on this transformative programme.
In its role, AECOM will deliver programme, project, and construction management services, along with specialised support for these complex projects.
Drew Jeter, Chief Executive of AECOM’s Program Management global business line said:These improvements, guided by our program management expertise, will enhance passenger experience, safety, and airport design, while also boosting the regional economy through job creation and increased tourism. This programme serves as a shining example of AECOM’s ongoing commitment to fostering sustainable and thriving communities.
