Aena has awarded a project drafting contract for the extensive remodelling of Terminal 1 at Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN).

This 700 million EUR project aims to modernise the terminal, adapting it to meet regulatory standards and the growing demands of passenger traffic while enhancing the overall travel experience.

The project includes expanding areas for check-in, baggage claim, and security controls. Plans also involve installing additional conveyor belts and upgrading commercial and catering facilities.

Meanwhile, further improvements will focus on energy efficiency, sustainability, and operational capacity.

The Technical Assistance for Project Drafting contract, valued at 9 million EUR, has been awarded to the joint venture Viarium Ingeniería SL, One Works SPA, and AYESA. This phase of the project has a completion timeline of 48 months.

The work complements ongoing upgrades to security control areas, including the installation of CT scanners to streamline passenger flows.

Notably, this project does not replace separate discussions between the Spanish and Catalan governments regarding future airfield developments.
