Alstom has delivered the final four Automated People Mover (APM) train cars to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

This brings the total number of cars on site to 44, with the vehicles gradually delivered from Pittsburgh, PA since summer 2022.

The final cars will now join the fleet in testing on the APM’s elevated guideway, prior to the system commencing service in January 2026.

John Ackerman, CEO of Los Angeles World Airports said:

Receiving the final train cars for the APM signifies a major milestone for this project and our airport’s transformation. The APM will enhance the travel experience at LAX and set a new standard for sustainable transportation. As we move this project forward, we remain dedicated to delivering a state-of-the-art solution that reflects our commitment to our passengers, community and environment.

This project will see LAX become the first US airport to use the INNOVIA 300 APM cars. These units feature fully recyclable aluminium shells and a regenerative braking system. They have also been designed to eliminate hazardous substances and toxic emissions.

The trains will operate on a 2.25-mile electric guideway at the airport, serving six stations with trains operating every 2 minutes.

The design-build team at LAX Integrated Express Solutions (LINXS) is expected to complete the project on 8 December 2025.

Shawn West, LINXS Constructors Board Member said:

The arrival of all the APM vehicles in Los Angeles marks the beginning of the next phase of this enormous project. Our focus now shifts from the construction of the APM’s physical structures to an extensive testing process with each and every vehicle.
