American Airlines has hit a new milestone with the receipt of its 1,000th mainline aircraft, a Boeing 787-9 fitted with the airline’s Flagship Suite seats.
The aircraft was delivered to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) on 29 August.

Heather Garboden, American’s Chief Customer Officer, said:We are excited to grow our fleet, adding even more aircraft that offer customers a premium travel experience.
Looking forward to our next 100 years, we are focused on elevating and reimagining the onboard cabin experience along with every aspect of the customer travel journey.
American Airlines has received eight premium Boeing 787-9 aircraft since April, with a total of 30 on order.
The aircraft is currently serving routes between Chicago (ORD) & London Heathrow (LHR), ORD & Los Angeles (LAX) and Philadelphia (PHL) & LHR.
American has stated that it plans to expand its Flagship Suite product onto additional flights to LHR in 2026, as well as continue to offer the Boeing 787-9 across the next year on flights to LHR from ORD and PHL, and will introduce services from DFW starting this November.
The Flagship Suite offers customers a space with privacy doors, wireless charging pads, duvets, slippers, a dual sided pillow and a chaise lounge seating option. American will begin offering customers the option to book a Flagship Suite seat on select flights from DFW to Auckland (AKL), Brisbane (BNE) and Buenos Aires (EZE), as well as flights between PHL and Zurich (ZRH).
