American Airlines has announced plans to reinstate a nonstop service between the United States and Venezuela.

The airline, which has stated it is currently in close contact with federal authorities, is ready to commence flights to Venezuela, pending both government approval and security assessments.

The new service is pending federal approval

American first began operating in Venezuela in 1987, and served as the largest US airline in the country before suspending service in 2019.

Nat Pieper, American’s Chief Commercial Officer, said:

We have a more than 30-year history connecting Venezolanos to the U.S., and we are ready to renew that incredible relationship.

By restarting service to Venezuela, American will offer customers the opportunity to reunite with families and create new business and commerce with the United States.

More details on the return to service are set to come in the next few months, with American now working closely with federal authorities on all necessary permissions and assessments.
