Archer Aviation has announced that it has acquired the master lease & associated subleases from the City of Hawthorne as part of its first phase of the acquisition of Hawthorne Airport.

The company now possesses total control of the real estate that makes up the airport following its initial announcement of acquisition in November.

Once up and running; Archer expects the airport to serve as the operational hub for its planned LA air taxi network operations, which will include a key role in the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Archer has also stated that it believes the site has a ‘significant additional upside’ in its potential profitability as an enterprise that ‘has yet to be realised’.

Located less than three miles from LAX, Hawthorne is the closest airport to a number of LA’s biggest attractions: SoFi Stadium, The Forum, Intuit Dome and Downtown LA.

Adam Goldstein, Archer’s Founder and Chief Executive Officer, said:

This is an important milestone as we look to build out the future of air taxis right here in LA. We are helping our great cities rethink and redefine transportation as we prepare for the next phase of modernisation and growth in our country.

The airport is also intended to be used as an innovation testbed for the company’s next-generation AI-powered aviation technologies, including AI-powered air traffic and ground operations management.
