New research released by Arka has revealed which airports are most likely to lose your luggage.
The analysis utilised a number of key factors and looked at passenger volumes alongside searches for lost and found services, as well as normalised search data per million passengers to identify airports where lost luggage searches were ‘disproportionately high’ and regional baggage mishandling rates per 1,000 passengers in order to ‘provide broader context’.

Of the airports analysed, Miami International Airport took the top spot as the worst airport for lost luggage with the highest number of lost and found searches per million flights, sitting at at 306 in total, as well as a regional mishandling rate of 5.5
In second place, Chicago O’Hare International recorded the most searches for lost and found, with 20.5 thousand searches for the lost and found area, five thousand more than any other airport. The airport also has a regional mismanagement rate of 5.5
Rounding out the top three is Singapore Changi Airport, with 265 online inquiries made for lost items per million flights and a mismanagement rate of 3.1.
Other airports in the top ten include Denver International Airport, Amsterdam Airport, Frankfurt am Main, Dubai International Airport, London Heathrow Airport, Dallas/Fort Worth International and Paris Charles de Gaulle (in descending order).
A spokesperson from Arka commented:Losing luggage can quickly turn a trip upside down, and some airports clearly struggle more than others when it comes to baggage handling. It’s important for travelers to be aware of where these challenges exist, so they can plan accordingly and take extra precautions.
At the same time, airports must continue to invest in improving their systems to ensure passengers’ belongings arrive safely and on time.
