Armidale Airport Apron Expansion Reaches Next Stage of Works

Armidale Airport will soar into another stage of its Airport Apron Expansion, with work set to begin sealing the airside parking apron next week.

Armidale Regional Council is planning to do a 10 millimetre spray seal, along with completing line marking and applying fuel resistant membrane for aircraft parking bays.

Armidale Regional Council’s General Manager, James Roncon, said:

This next stage of the Airport Apron Expansion is exciting for both Armidale Regional Council and the community, as it means we are one step closer to having an airport to rival those in other regional cities.

Armidale Regional Council has poured $3 million into the project, along with $1.5 million contributed by the NSW Government.

Once complete, the expansion will give Armidale the capacity to receive more than double the flights it currently takes. The upgraded apron will add another three aircraft parking spaces, which has the potential to drastically increase passenger numbers and transform the region into a tourist hotspot.

Armidale Regional Council’s General Manager, James Roncon, added:

The airport is our link to metropolitan areas, so with our state of the art terminal and increased flight capacity, the region is right on track to becoming a major destination for both sea changers and holiday-makers.

This will be a huge boost to our local economy, and will also hopefully entice more big business to invest in our Armidale Airside Business Park.

Armidale Regional Council has poured $3 million into the project, along with $1.5 million contributed by the NSW Government.  The next lot of works will be conducted in three stages beginning on Tuesday 19 January, with work expected to take around a week to complete.

Flights in and out of Armidale Airport will not be affected.
