Avinor has announced the beginning of a preliminary project for further development of Trondheim Airport, Værnes.
Work is set to include the making of final decisions on how the airport can be further developed with both a holistic and future-oriented approach in mind.

With the project in an early phase, a possible decision on development will be considered by Avinor’s board of directors in 2028 at the earliest, following the finalisation of concept and sketch work, as well as preliminary designs.
Thorgeir Landevaag, Executive Vice President of the Major Airports Division at Avinor, said:Trondheim Airport is one of our largest airports, and we need to plan long-term to ensure that it can meet future needs. The preliminary project will give us a solid basis for making good decisions about further development.
Avinor has stated that it intends to announce tenders for the implementation of the pilot project in the Autumn, with the work at large following a number of developments at Værnes since the 1990s.
Set to last for one year; the pilot project will asses how capacity, functionality and land use might be developed in line with future needs, facilitating an airport that meets requirements of future operations and aviation.
