Bordeaux–Mérignac Airport has selected Alstef Group to supply a new baggage handling system as part of a redevelopment programme centred on a Central Building.

The new facility, to be located between Halls A and B, will support the introduction of a fully centralised baggage handling system. The design is intended to pool operational resources, streamline baggage processing, and accommodate future passenger growth while addressing evolving regulatory requirements.

Under the contract, Alstef Group will install its XSORT cross-belt sorting technology. The system will include five injection points, 11 sorting chutes and three departure carousels. The project also covers the integration of a BagSort system, the installation of a new arrivals carousel, and upgrades to check-in infrastructure, including 19 counters in Hall A and 26 counters in Hall B.

The centralised system is designed to process both standard and out-of-gauge baggage within the same architecture. Airport officials state that this approach is expected to improve operational coordination and support handling capacity as passenger volumes change.

In addition to supplying the equipment, Alstef Group will provide maintenance services for at least two years following commissioning of the system.

The project forms part of Bordeaux Airport’s wider infrastructure programme aimed at adapting its facilities to projected traffic levels and operational requirements in the coming years. In 2025, the airport recorded 5.9 million passengers. During that year, airlines operating from the airport served 92 destinations in 30 countries through a network of 26 carriers.
