Memphis International Airport (MEM) has begun demolishing Concourse A to make way for a series of projects under its Terminal Modernization and Seismic Project (TMSP).

The work started on 7 July and is expected to continue through late 2025 or early 2026.

The cleared space will initially be used to store construction materials for the ongoing terminal upgrades. Longer-term, the site will house a new Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority (MSCAA) administration building and a new checked baggage inspection system (CBIS).

Concourse A, built in 1974, has not been in use since 2022 when the airport consolidated all airline, retail, and food operations into the updated Concourse B.

This demolition marks one of several scheduled milestones for the TMSP, which aims to improve infrastructure resilience and passenger experience. Other developments include the reopening of the B concourse crosswalk in June and the expected completion of transit tunnel work by the end of July. Changes to pedestrian access and commercial curb arrangements are scheduled for September and November.

The TMSP is part of a broader effort to modernise Memphis International Airport, with ongoing construction activity set to continue into 2026.
