Following the new terminal’s opening, Vilnius Airport will undergo further upgrades, including the re-planning and modification of old terminal areas. This conversion will expand commercial spaces and enhance passenger services.

This work is expected to begin around mid-2025 and will continue until late 2026. The construction of a new arrivals terminal is also planned in parallel to be operational by the end of 2028.

Marius Skuodis, Minister of Transport and Communications said:

The coming years will be crucial for the development of Lithuanian airports' infrastructure to increase passenger handling capacity and elevate service quality. Vilnius Airport will be the first to showcase this leap forward, with its new departure terminal set to double passenger capacity and deliver a new travel experience through cutting-edge technology. Our goal is to elevate the standard of Lithuanian airports, ensuring a comfortable journey for all travellers.

Meanwhile, Lithuanian Airports’ operational strategy focuses on fostering sustainable partnerships and boosting the contribution of airports to the Lithuanian economy.

Its plan also includes infrastructure development, enhancing air transport quality, optimising business models, improving passenger experience, managing risks, and ensuring sustainability.

Simonas Bartkus, Head of the Lithuanian Airports said:

For our aviation, commercial, and institutional partners, we aim to create an environment that supports sustainable growth. Our planned infrastructure expansions will improve the passenger experience and boost capacity while providing businesses with opportunities to grow at our three international airports. In the coming years, airport spaces will undergo significant changes, and we aim to set a new quality standard in collaboration with our partners.

Furthermore, an upcoming focus on digital transformation aims to further enhance passenger interactions, streamline management processes, and introduce new technologies to optimise airport operations.

Bartkus stated:

A growing share of airport processes is becoming digitalized and automated, from baggage systems and self-service to flow management and security screening. We plan major advancements that will help us acquire new competencies and achieve our strategic ambitions.
