Construction has commenced on a new passenger handling and administration facility at Blackpool Airport (BLK) in northern England.
The facility will provide an expanded arrivals and departures area and a larger security checkpoint to house updated X-ray and CT scanning technology. The upgrade is designed to support the airport’s growing private, corporate, and commercial charter flight operations, delivered in partnership with Hangar 3.

As part of the development, the airport will also be able to accommodate larger cabin-class corporate aircraft, contributing to its ongoing expansion plans.
Airport Director Steve Peters said:Over the last three years we’ve been working continuously to grow our executive and charter customer base in partnership with the expert team at Hangar 3.
The new passenger handling facility and administrative building will mean we can continue with our growth plans both in terms of the number of flights and the size of corporate aircraft we can accommodate.
It is exciting to take the next step in our journey to a brighter future for aviation in Blackpool.
This project is one of several initiatives Blackpool Airport has proposed or begun in recent years. A planning application was submitted in 2024 for new hangars and a road at Airport East, while future ambitions include additional hangar space for general and executive aviation, a maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) hangar, a solar farm, and a new fuel farm to support sustainable and alternative aviation fuels and battery storage.
