The Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners (BOAC) has approved a contract amendment with Hensel Phelps Construction Co., enabling the launch of the construction phase of the Central Terminal Area (CTA) Curbside Improvement Program at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

The project aims to reimagine the LAX curbside process into a modern and cohesive appearance reflecting the city’s energy and culture, with improvements set to include upgraded roadways and crosswalks, enhanced pedestrian safety, additional seating and new benches.

Hans Thilenius, Deputy Executive Director, Terminal Development and Improvement Program, LAWA, said:

This next phase of LAX's transformation represents far more than infrastructure, it's about creating a first and last impression of Los Angeles that is welcoming, inspiring and unmistakably reflective of our city's character.

The improvements will elevate how travelers experience LAX, aligning with the broader transformation already underway at and around our airport.

Alongside the new infrastructure upgrades; the Improvement Program will include the implementation of refreshed lighting, updated façades, and improved landscaping, as well as revitalised lighting for both the Theme Building and air traffic control tower.

The latest amendment between LAWA and Hensel Phelps will enable a move from design and pre-construction into full-scale construction.
