Centralny Port Komunikacyjny (CPK) has partnered with Polish Airports (PPL) to construct its new central airport, set to enhance regional and global travel connectivity.
The collaboration combines the expertise of two leading Polish aviation organisations. CPK will maintain a majority ownership stake of at least 51% in the newly formed subsidiary, CPK.Lotnisko, responsible for overseeing the project.
Meanwhile, Polish Airports (PPL), the operator of Warsaw Chopin Airport and several regional facilities, will hold up to 49% ownership. This structure balances national control with the operational expertise required for a project of this scale.
The airport will be financed and operated primarily using Polish capital. The estimated construction cost of the airport is 44.7 billion PLN.
Shareholders, including CPK and PPL, will cover 30-40% of the costs, with the remainder financed through bonds and other debt mechanisms.
CPK will allocate 9.125 billion PLN to the project, while PPL is expected to contribute up to 9 billion PLN.
The partnership agreement is scheduled for finalisation in Q4 2025, following preparatory work over the next year.
Dr. Filip Czernicki, CEO of CPK said:I am pleased that thanks to the joint capital commitment of PPL and CPK, the integration of the investment process and the achievement of the goals of the CPK Programme will be effectively realised, from leveraging know-how and technologies to the eventual commissioning and operational management of the CPK airport.
The new airport will function as a modern intermodal transport hub, with the first phase set for completion in 2032. This phase will include two parallel runways and facilities capable of handling up to 34 million passengers annually. An integrated terminal will combine air, rail, and bus transport, offering seamless connections for travellers.
The development will also involve significant upgrades to Poland’s transport infrastructure. Plans include the construction of the high-speed rail line “Y” connecting Warsaw and Łódź and improvements to the A2 motorway. These enhancements aim to increase accessibility and efficiency for passengers and freight.
Andrzej Ilków, CEO of PPL said:The capital involvement of Polish Airports in CPK.Lotnisko will allow it to continue its role as a key institution in the Polish aviation market, linked to nearly a century of Polish aviation tradition. We have the skilled staff and knowledge necessary to meet the challenges associated with the construction of the CPK airport, especially during the launch and operational phases.
