San Diego, California — Derlot Group is proud to announce its contribution to the highly anticipated San Diego International Airport Terminal 1 redevelopment, supplying its signature Prisma and Hext furniture collections in collaboration with global architecture and design firm Gensler.
As part of the progressive design-build effort led by Gensler and Turner-Flatiron, the new 1.2-million-square-foot Terminal 1 features 30 new gates and a design vision centered on enhancing passenger comfort, functionality, and a sense of place. Derlot’s seating systems are a key element of this vision, creating intimate seating clusters across all gates that establish a new gate design language for the airport.

Taking full advantage of the modularity of the Prisma and Hext collections, Derlot worked closely with Gensler to tailor configurations that respond to diverse passenger needs — from quiet moments of rest to social seating arrangements. The result is a series of versatile seating environments that elevate the overall passenger experience.
Terminal 1’s design, described as a “Glassy Garden Pavilion”, offers abundant daylight, expansive harbor views, and a marketplace of dining and retail. Derlot’s furniture complements these architectural qualities with tactile materials, geometric forms, and adaptable layouts that harmonize with the terminal’s light-filled spaces.
Alexander Lotersztain, Director of Derlot Group, said:This project showcases the power of modular design to transform airport waiting areas into welcoming, human-centered environments.
Our collaboration with Gensler was focused on delivering a seating solution that is as functional as it is beautiful — one that reflects the unique spirit of San Diego while meeting the operational demands of a world-class transport hub.
The new Terminal 1 and roadways are part of a long-term enhancement plan for San Diego International Airport, designed to accommodate passenger growth through 2035 while integrating energy efficiency, improved transit connections, and art installations that enrich the travel experience.
