Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) has commenced construction on Terminal F, its sixth terminal. This will be the first new terminal built at the airport since 2005.
The groundbreaking ceremony took place in November at the site of the future terminal, which will include a double-loaded concourse with 15 gates and enhanced customer amenities.
Sean Donohue, DFW’s Chief Executive Officer said:The new Terminal F will expand the airport’s footprint with state-of-the-art facilities that align with our first-in-class customer experience and operation as we support the historic rise in air travel to and from the North Texas region. By utilising modular construction techniques that we first pioneered with the High-C Gates, we will deliver Terminal F using technology at a scale that’s unique among airport development projects.
The 1.6 billion USD Terminal F programme will feature a 400,000-square-foot concourse. The expansion also includes over 100,000 square feet of new check-in, security, and baggage claim facilities in Terminal E.
Passengers flying from Terminal F will check in at Terminal E and transfer seamlessly via the Skylink system, which will include a new station at Terminal F, set to open in 2027.
Terminal F is designed to accommodate future growth, with provisions for additional gates and facilities. DFW’s ongoing expansions in Terminals A and C, alongside Terminal F, will provide a total of 24 new gates to meet increasing demand.
Dallas Mayor Eric L. Johnson said:I am excited to see the momentum continue at DFW Airport with the start of construction on Terminal F. This new terminal will be another important gateway to our thriving city, enhancing and growing connectivity to and from Dallas. I’m thrilled to watch this monumental project come to life and expand one of Dallas’ greatest assets as we prepare for even more historic growth in air travel and throughout our region.
A key element of the Terminal F project is the use of modular construction. This technique, which DFW first utilised for the High-C Gates in 2022, allows for greater efficiency by prefabricating modules at a separate site before moving them to their final location. This approach reduces construction time and operational disruptions.
The design and construction of Terminal F will be handled by the Innovation Next+ Joint Venture, which includes Archer Western Construction, Turner Construction, Phillips May Corporation, H.J. Russell & Company, and CARCON Industries, with PGAL, Gensler, and Muller2 leading the design efforts.
The completion of Terminal F is scheduled for 2027.
