Lufthansa’s leisure airline Discover Airlines has announced an expansion of its fleet with the purchase of 40 new aircraft by mid-2028 – starting with the acquisition of a set of four new Airbus A350-900 aircraft.
The four new aircraft will begin to be integrated from mid-2027, and are expected to be used on existing Discover Airlines routes, such as Windhoek or Orlando.

The integration of the aircraft will also serve to provide new possibilities with regards to services to South and Central America, south Africa and Southeast Asia – locations unable to be reached with Discover’s current fleet.
Two new Airbus A320 aircraft are also set to be added to airline’s fleet in 2026, with an additional two being added by mid-2028, bringing the A320 fleet to 20.
Currently; Discover Airlines operates a fleet of 30 aircraft consisting of 14 Airbus A330 long-haul aircraft and 16 Airbus A420 short- and medium-haul aircraft.
2026 will also see the retirement of three Airbus A330-200s, with five Airbus A330-300s set to be brought into service to compensate for the loss.
By 2027, Discover Airlines’ long-haul fleet will consist of a total of 16 aircraft – all of which will be A330-300s.
Bernd Bauer, CEO of Discover Airlines:With the further development and expansion of our fleet – including the planned deployment of the Airbus A350 – we are further strengthening our existing offering, with even more comfort and attractive options for our guests. Additional aircraft, greater range, and a new cabin product will enable us to respond even better to the needs of travellers.
We look forward to flying even more people on vacation in the future, while at the same time making an important contribution to strengthening the Lufthansa Group in the leisure and private travel segment.
Now it is time for us to quickly create the conditions for integrating the Airbus A350 into our fleet.
