The Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) has deployed 152 automated e-gates across key airports in Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, and Madinah.
This investment is part of efforts to modernise border control procedures and align with the country’s digital transformation strategy.

The e-gates, developed in coordination with the General Directorate of Passports and Matarat Holding, are designed to automate entry processes by linking with visa, biometric, and airline databases. This integration aims to reduce processing times and manage passenger flow more efficiently.
According to SDAIA, the system is intended to enhance security measures while making travel procedures more straightforward. The initiative aligns with broader efforts to adopt technology-driven solutions in various sectors, including transport and border management.
The e-gates are expected to support Saudi Arabia’s objectives for digital infrastructure development, with authorities monitoring their impact on airport operations and passenger movement.
Further expansion of the system may be considered based on operational outcomes.
