The US Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has announced more than 374 million USD in grants to improve airports across the nation.
This funding is the third round of grants from the Airport Improvement Program (AIP). It will contribute to airfield, safety, and other improvement projects at 299 airports in 46 states and American Samoa.
US Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said:The Biden-Harris Administration continues to modernise our aviation infrastructure to make it safer, more resilient, and more efficient. The funding we’re announcing today will allow hundreds of airports to make critical improvements that will benefit passengers for years to come.
The projects funded under this programme will include the construction of new and improved airport facilities, repairs to runways and taxiways, maintenance of airfield lighting and signage, and the purchase of equipment to operate and maintain airports.
Specific examples of airports receiving grants include:
Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport in Alabama will receive 6.9 million USD for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of several taxiways.
Fitiuta Airport in American Samoa will receive 2 million USD to rehabilitate the pavement on Runway 12/30.
Huntsville International-Carl T. Jones Field in Alabama has been awarded 12.8 million USD to shift Taxiway E2 by 200 feet and rehabilitate the pavement and lighting on Runway 18/36.
Denver International Airport in Colorado will receive 6.3 million USD to rehabilitate Taxiway P and EC.
Miami International Airport in Florida will gain 4.6 million USD to reconstruct the Central Terminal building to increase capacity and efficiency.
Driggs/Reed Memorial Airport in Idaho has been awarded 10.4 million USD to shift Runway 4/22, bringing the airport into conformity with current FAA standards, and extending Taxiway A to enhance safety.
Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport in Kentucky will receive 10 million USD to reconstruct its Taxiway B pavement.
Boston Logan International Airport in Massachusetts has been awarded 15.5 million USD to rehabilitate Taxiway N.
Stillwater Regional Airport in Oklahoma has been awarded 7.2 million USD for the construction of a new terminal building to accommodate additional passengers.
