Finavia has announced the completion of its expansion project in the departure hall of Rovaniemi Airport, with the building now open to the public and serving departing passengers.

The 3 million EUR expansion project forms part of a larger investment programme of 5.5 million EUR across the airport in 2025.

The expansion has increased the size of the airport’s departure hall by almost 1,000m² and allowed for the renewal and reorganisation of ground traffic areas in front of the airport building itself, with different modes of transport now set to be located in their own areas.

Changes to ground traffic areas are set to take effect in full across the remainder of 2025 and the start of 2026.

Henri Hansson, Finavia’s Senior Vice President, Airport Network, said:

Over the years, Finavia has made significant investments in the development of Lapland’s airports. The expansion of the departures hall at Rovaniemi Airport, which started in April 2025, has now been completed – fully on schedule and within the original budget.

The completed expansion will improve the customer experience of departing passengers in particular, and with the introduction of the new facilities, I would like to warmly welcome all passengers to Rovaniemi Airport.

Finavia has also invested a total of 1.2 million EUR into the airport’s air traffic areas, including improvements to the runway lighting system and remote de-icing station.

Rovaniemi Airport saw a record number of 984,000 passengers in 2024, an increase of almost 30% on the previous year as the airport has become a significant international transport hub.
