Finavia has announced the completion of two renovation projects at Kokkola-Pietarsaari Airport this summer.
The projects, which were worth roughly 180,000 EUR, were completed with little to no impact on air traffic at the airport and focused on the development of KOK’s eletricity supply, as well as the repair of the approach lighting system used by aircraft.

Renovation works on the airport’s electricity were carried out between June and September and complete on schedule.
The completed project has significantly increased operation reliability of the airport’s electrical systems, enabling use of the runway during poor visibility during bouts of fog and other difficult weather conditions.
Now complete, the renovated electrical systems extend extensively to the Kokkola-Pietarsaari Airport area, and nearly 1.5 kilometres of new electrical cables were installed.
Mika Järvinen, Airport Manager at Kokkola-Pietarsaari Airport, said:Responsible life cycle management is an important part of ensuring that air traffic can operate at the airport. Airports have a lot of critical infrastructure. Its maintenance requires special expertise and financial investments.
Extensive works were also carried out to repair the airport’s approach lighting system at the northern end of the runway.
New tall light poles were installed in August, and reach up to 11.5 metres in height. Previously used light poles have been saved for other purposes at the airport.
All work carried out during the summer was aided almost entirely by input and expertise from Finavia employees at Kokkola-Pietarsaari Airport, all of which participated in one or both projects.
Mika Järvinen said:The personnel at Kokkola-Pietarsaari Airport did a great job with this summer’s projects. The atmosphere was encouraging, inclusive and proactive, which is why the implementation of the projects was so successful. I would like to thank everyone involved for their important contribution and commitment.
