Fraport AG has officially announced that Frankfurt Airport’s (FRA) new Terminal 3 will open on 22 April 2026.
The airport operator recently received official approval for the Terminal’s full operation.

Final touches are now being implemented within the Terminal, including the installation of 21 security check lanes with modern CT scanners, an expansion of retail and catering areas and the commencement of baggage handling system tests.
Extensive trial operations are also set to begin at Terminal 3, with roughly 8,000 test passengers expected to test the Terminal’s capabilities over 21 days between 27 January and 16 April 2026.
Stefan Schulte, Chairman of the Executive Board of Fraport AG, said:It's a very special moment for Fraport, but also for me personally. Ten years ago, we celebrated the groundbreaking of Terminal 3, and today we stand in one of the most modern airport terminals in Europe – with the opening on April 22 firmly in sight.
My thanks and respect go to all those involved in the project and the responsible authorities who contributed to the success of this mega-project. I'm already looking forward to welcoming our guests to Terminal 3 for the first time.
Construction for the site first began in October 2015, with the ten-year construction period resulting in a terminal will serve up to 19 million passengers per year across its three piers G, H and J. All work has been handled by Fraport Ausbau Süd GmbH (FAS), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fraport AG.
Harald Rohr, Technical Director of FAS, said:The successful completion of this major project under extremely difficult conditions sends a strong message: Despite the pandemic, the war in Ukraine, and massive disruptions to global supply chains, we succeeded in building the new terminal on schedule and within budget.
Once operational; airlines will begin operating flights to both Schengen and non-Schengen areas. Starting in mid-April and until the beginning of June, all 57 airlines currently operating in Terminal 2 will relocate to Terminal 3 in four waves.
