Frequentis and Bayanat to Support Dubai Air Navigation Services with Airport Contingency Plans
- Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Dubai World Central (DWC) to enhance pilot information services with Frequentis digital ATIS
Frequentis and long-term partner Bayanat were selected by Dubai Air Navigation Services (dans) to supply two identical D-ATIS (digital automatic terminal information service) systems for Dubai International Airport (DXB), and Dubai World Central (DWC). The solution will provide safe and effective integration of automatic meteorological information via terrestrial broadcast and data-link transmission. The Frequentis smartTOOLS solution will enable dans to realise its extensive contingency plans for both airports.
Dubai International Airport is the world’s busiest airport by international passenger traffic, serving approximately 88 million passengers per year, as well as handling 2.65 million tons of cargo. It also serves as the primary hub for Emirates Airlines.
The Frequentis D-ATIS project is part of a larger program to establish a critical contingency equipment room for dans, a contract awarded to Bayanat in February 2020. The current D-ATIS will be replaced with the Frequentis D-ATIS, and set up with quad redundancy, ensuring maximum availability for one of the world’s biggest airports.
Managing Director Frequentis Middle East, Josef Kutschi, said:The Frequentis D-ATIS can handle complex systems and large hubs fully automatically and is well suited for the needs of dans, especially for post Covid air traffic, as demand for passenger flights begins to pick up. This project is our first quad redundant D-ATIS, proving again our systems ability and reliability for large and important airport hubs. This is also a key project for the development of Frequentis Middle East, and we are looking forward to an even closer working relationship with dans.
