Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) has selected a team led by HDR to provide programme and construction management services for the landside portion of its Airfield and Terminal Modernization Project (ATMP) at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).
This project will add a new terminal and concourse at LAX, along with a new elevated roadway system and airfield upgrades.
The landside portion will be delivered through a design-build approach divided into two phases. The first phase will be focused on design and preconstruction services, while phase 2 will focus on construction.
In total, the landside projects are valued at approximately 1 billion USD.
The scope of this work includes designing and constructing more than 18 lane miles of roadway, replacing the entry and exit into LAX’s Central Terminal area and adding connections to the new terminal.
Once the landside improvements are complete, an elevated roadway system will separate local traffic from airport traffic to reduce congestion.
HDR Principal Program Manager Scott Jarvis said:The ATMP project will dramatically improve the passenger experience at LAX and requires a top-notch team to meet its aggressive timeline ahead of the 2028 Summer Olympics. HDR looks forward to working with LAWA to deliver these roadway improvements successfully while maintaining traffic and making the transition as seamless as possible for travellers.
This contract builds upon HDR’s previous success in providing design and management work for LAX’s Automated People Mover.
