Heathrow Airport has hit a new milestone with the processing of 8 million passengers in a single month, marking the first time a major European hub has exceeded passenger numbers of 8 million.

August saw the airport hit two record days – with its busiest day on record seeing more than 270,000 passengers travel through on 1 August and over 112,000 passing through Terminal 5 on 22 August.

August saw the airport welcome the most passengers of any major European airport in history
Heathrow CEO Thomas Woldbye said:

August is set to go down in the history books - Heathrow became the first European airport to handle over eight million passengers in a single month and we achieved that whilst maintaining industry-leading punctuality and service levels.

This is an outstanding achievement, made possible by the collective efforts of our colleagues, airline partners and the wider airport community who worked as one to deliver excellent service for our passengers and the UK.

August also saw a number of service records set by the Airport, with 98% of bags travelling on flights as expected and 96% of passengers waiting less than five minutes at security.

The Airport also recorded its most punctual August on record.
