London Heathrow Airport (LHR) has officially declared its busiest September on record, with the airport having handled nearly. 7.4 million passengers last month.
Despite issues related to the Collins Aerospace IT issue that affected airline systems throughout Europe, the airport was also named the most connected airport in the world for the third year in a row.

95% of passengers also claimed to have waited less than five minutes in security lines throughout the month.
The airport has stated it drove more than 215 billion GBP in trade in 2024, and recently announced plans for a 100% privately funded stretch of motorway on the M25 as part of its third runway development plan.
The new section of motorway will be built entirely ‘offline’ 130 metres to the west of the airport.
Heathrow CEO, Thomas Woldbye said:This summer at Heathrow was one to be celebrated. Operating Europe’s largest airport doesn’t come without its challenges, but I’m proud that our team delivered under pressure — welcoming nearly 7.4 million passengers in September alone while maintaining strong performance in punctuality and security. We continued to lead the pack in global connectivity, all while keeping the passenger experience smooth for millions.
It’s a clear sign that Heathrow is vital to the UK’s economic growth and why we will continue to invest in our airport - opening up even more opportunities for passengers, airlines, and the country.
