Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) has announced that new passenger departure facilities at Terminal 2 (T2) will begin operations on 27 May 2026.
The announcement was made during Chinese New Year celebrations at HKIA by Fred Lam, Chairman of Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) and Mable Chan, Secretary for Transport and Logistics.

Passenger facilities of the expanded terminal have been commissioned in phases in order to align with passenger traffic demand, with the launch of T2 departure facilities in May set to enable HKIA to meet the anticipated surge in passengers during the upcoming summer peak season.
The expanded T2, which is connected to the Airport Express platform and Terminal 1 building, is set to offer a number of new smart check-in facilities, and has been designed to be served by around 15 airlines operating short-haul and regional routes – all of which will move to T2 in phases.
In order to prepare for the commissioning of T2’s departure facilities; AAHK has been working closely with relevant government departments, airlines, passenger handling agents and other stakeholders. Preparations have included a programme of familiarisation activities, training sessions, drills, and exercises.
T2’s Coach Hall commenced operations on 23 September 2025, acting as the first phase of the launch of the new terminal. It provides 41 parking bays for tour buses, cross-boundary coaches, limousines, crew and resident coaches, as well as ticketing counters for cross-boundary transport connecting with more than 110 destinations in the Greater Bay Area.
