Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) has released an expanded blueprint for its Airport City development.

This project aims to foster economic growth in both Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area by combining commercial, cultural, artistic, entertainment, and leisure elements as part of the international airport.

First introduced in 2019, the Airport City blueprint integrates the airport’s operational functions with related commercial ventures, strategically using the airport’s geographical advantages to capitalise on new infrastructure developments.

Since the blueprint’s launch, AAHK has launched key projects, including a new hotel and three Grade-A office towers, which are already operational. Additionally, 11 SKIES, a multi-functional complex featuring retail, dining, and entertainment, will commence phased openings starting in late 2025.

Fred Lam, Chairman of AAHK, said:

HKIA is a leading international aviation hub in Asia. With the three-runway system fully operating by the end of this year, we are in a position to press full steam ahead with innovative projects in different market segments. The expansion of the development blueprint will focus on leveraging Hong Kong’s unique advantages and creating synergy among various projects to transform the Airport City into a new landmark of Asia. It will be a distinct tourist hotspot for visitors from Hong Kong, the Greater Bay Area and all over the world, especially premium visitors, injecting impetus into the economic growth of Hong Kong and the region.

The revised blueprint significantly expands development, more than doubling the scope of Airport City. New ventures will include an ecosystem for the art industry, an expanded AsiaWorld-Expo, a marina with supporting facilities, and a fresh food market.

These projects are scheduled for completion from 2026 to 2031 and will further boost high-end commercial, tourism, and leisure activities in the area.

Art Industry Ecosystem

The art ecosystem at HKIA will integrate art creation, appreciation, and trade within a single venue, featuring galleries, studios, and a specialised large-scale art storage facility—the first of its kind in Hong Kong.

These facilities will align with AsiaWorld-Expo’s art exhibitions, supporting Hong Kong’s development as a world-class art marketplace.

AsiaWorld-Expo Phase 2 Expansion

The second phase of AsiaWorld-Expo’s development will introduce Hong Kong’s largest indoor arena with a seating capacity exceeding 20,000, alongside additional convention and exhibition facilities.

This project will position Hong Kong to host more international events and attract global visitors, reinforcing its cultural and commercial appeal.

Marina and Ancillary Facilities

Leveraging the water resources around the airport island, AAHK plans to develop Hong Kong’s largest marina, offering around 600 berths. This will establish Airport City as a key destination for yacht tourism in Asia, especially within the Greater Bay Area, and will be complemented by diverse water recreation facilities.

Expanded Public Spaces and Sportainment Complex

Plans also include various indoor and outdoor leisure facilities along the coastlines of the airport and Hong Kong Port Island, alongside unique hotel developments and promenades.

A sportainment complex will be developed on the Hong Kong Port Island, hosting sports, adventure, and entertainment activities to attract both locals and tourists.

Jet Fresh Market

Capitalising on HKIA’s air cargo leadership, AAHK will establish a “Jet Fresh Market” on Hong Kong Port Island. This market will reinforce Hong Kong’s role as a hub for high-end fresh foods.
