The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has announced the launch of the Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Matchmaker platform, which has been developed to facilitate SAF procurement between both airlines and SAF producers by matching requests for SAF supply with appropriate offers.
When two companies have been matched, the two parties are able to connect and continue negotiations offline to agree on the sale.

The SAF Matchmaker was envisioned to address the efficiency of SAF procurement without any unnecessary fees, connect parties both supplying and in search of SAF and provide information regarding the availability of SAF such as volumes, feedstock used, the location and technology of production, emission reduction and compliance with the Carbon Offsetting Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) or the European Union’s Renewable Energy Directive (EU RED).
Marie Owens Thomsen, IATA’s Senior Vice President Sustainability and Chief Economist, said:To reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050, we need an accessible, transparent, liquid, and efficient SAF market. The SAF Matchmaker is another example of the work that IATA is putting in place to create a fully functioning market for SAF.
The SAF Matchmaker platform will accelerate the uptake of SAF by reducing the costs and complexity that airlines face when searching for SAF suppliers.
The SAF Matchmaker, which is hosted on the Aviation Energy Hub, also supports spot purchases in addition to offtake agreements, and will initially be made available to airline and SAF suppliers only. The IATA has stated that access will be granted to other SAF buyers, such as non-aviation corporations, in due course.
