Manchester Airport has begun work on improvements in Terminal 3, with construction on the multi-million-pound project now under way.

Set to boast 40% more seating, the Terminal will receive a new entrance, security equipment and new shops.

The first sections of the upgraded terminal are set to open to the public in early 2026, with a new 469 seat sports bar named Sporting Chance set to be the very first.

Other spaces will include a new Italian-themed restaurant, Terracotta. Both outlets will be operated by airport specialist NMSHost UK, which is part of the Avolta group.

Work on the terminal comes following the completion of a decade-long 1.3 billion GBP project to rebuild and double capacity at the airport’s Terminal 2 building, which will open in full later this year, becoming the main terminal in the process.

Once Terminal 2 has been opened, Manchester Airport will close Terminal 1 before using a portion of its space to expand Terminal 3.

Manchester Airport Managing director Chris Woodroofe said:

Here at Manchester Airport we’re proud to connect the North to the world and we’re always looking at how we can improve the experience we provide to our passengers.

Our 10 year, £1.3bn project to completely transform Terminal 2 is nearly finished and we know passengers who have already used it absolutely love it.

And now we’re able to shift our focus to Terminal 3 where work has already begun. Our plan is to take advantage of the extra space that will be afforded by the closure of Terminal 1 to really improve the experience for passengers who fly from there.

It’s great to see the work already underway and really exciting that passengers will start to see the benefits of it from early next year.

Once finalised, Terminal 2 is set to include 13 new flexible aircraft stands and boarding gates, as well as a route linking the security hall with the departure lounge.
