Emirates has released renderings of its future hub at Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) in Jebel Ali in the United Arab Emirates.
Also known as Dubai World Central, the airport is located 37 kilometres southwest of Dubai. Having opened in 2010, it is now set to be expanded into a major international hub.
The expanded airport will be five times the size of Dubai International Airport (DXB) and will be capable of accommodating 260 million passengers per year.
The future Al Maktoum International Airport will include five parallel runways and 400 aircraft gates.
Al Maktoum International AirportThis expansion is targeted to cost 128 billion AED (28 billion GBP). Existing operations from Dubai International Airport are expected to transfer to the new hub by 2034.
This facility aims to ensure that Dubai is prepared for increased demand across the aviation sector for decades to come.
