The New Terminal One at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) has partnered with TCR, a provider of ground support equipment (GSE), to introduce a fully centralised fleet of all-electric GSE.
This initiative, the first of its kind globally, will help reduce emissions to support sustainable airport operations.

The centralised electric GSE fleet, set to operate at JFK’s New Terminal One, will be shared by ground handlers, replacing the traditional model of individual ownership or leasing by each company. This pooling system is intended to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and minimise environmental impact.
Through this project, TCR will supply the electric ground support equipment alongside advanced fleet management technology. This technology allows for real-time monitoring, enhancing operational safety and efficiency.
The New Terminal One Chief Executive Officer Jennifer Aument said:Our team at the New Terminal One is creating an unparalleled travel experience, while staying true to our commitment to environmental sustainability. We are delighted to partner with TCR on this innovative collaboration for all-electric ground support equipment, which will contribute to seamless operations for our partner airlines and a best-in-class experience for their customers.
The New Terminal One is part of the 19 billion USD overhaul of JFK Airport by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Its commitment to a shared, all-electric GSE fleet aligns with the Port Authority’s goal of achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions across its airports by 2050.
As part of the project, TCR plans to create approximately 50 local jobs, including positions for electric GSE maintenance technicians. The company also aims to support local businesses and minority- and women-owned enterprises (MWBE), aligning with the Port Authority’s inclusion goals.
Stephanie Rajzbaum, TCR Managing Director North America said:Extending our presence in North America marks a significant milestone for our organisation. We are excited to collaborate with local communities and partners, fostering a diverse workplace and creating about 50 local jobs, including roles for electric GSE maintenance technicians contributing to the success of New Terminal One.
Scheduled to open its first phase in 2026, the New Terminal One will feature 14 new gates within its initial arrivals and departures halls. Once completed in 2030, the terminal will span 2.6 million square feet, making it the largest at JFK. Designed as an international-only terminal, it will ultimately include 23 gates, open public spaces, advanced technology, and passenger amenities.
Kristof Philips, CEO of TCR Airport Solutions said:We are thrilled to contribute to this groundbreaking initiative. This project highlights our dedication to sustainability and innovation, setting a worldwide model for the aviation industry.
