Doors have officially opened for Lithuanian Airports’ (TLOU) newly expanded Kaunas Airport Terminal following a major development project.
The terminal, which was opened on 21 November, is now fully accessible, and has seen its overall capacity double from 400 to 800 passengers per hour – enabling an increase in yearly passenger handling to 2 million.

The opening event was attended by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Lithuania Inga Ruginienė, Minister of Transport and Communications Juras Taminskas, representatives of Lithuanian Airports, Kaunas district municipality and other institutions.
Both the terminal’s arrivals and departure areas have been significantly expanded, with the overall area having increased more than 1.5 times to reach roughly 4,400 square metres.
The Airport is now capable of operating six boarding gates, an increase from the previous four, and can now handle up to six passenger flights per hour.
Work on the 17.7 million EUR expansion began in spring 2024 and was carried out by Infes, with additional upgrades including more space within the check-in area (as well as more check-in desks), the enlargement of both Schengen and non-Schengen zones, new waiting, dining and shopping areas and the expansion of baggage claim areas.
Car rental services have also been relocated to inside the terminal, with two baggage claim belts also now in operation – doubling the previous offering of one.

During the opening ceremony, Simonas Bartkus, CEO of Lithuanian Airports (LTOU) stated that terminal flows ‘vastly exceeded the terminal’s previous capacity’, emphasising that the newly expanded area will allow the airport to serve much larger passenger volumes ‘whilst providing a high-quality travel experience’.
The expansion also saw additional resources driven toward technology upgrades deemed essential to increase capacity and efficiency, including baggage handling and screening systems – with 4.5 million EUR invested in this area.
With the airport set to record 1.6 million passengers in 2025, Bartkus also stated that the long-term goal is to reach 2 million passengers within the next three years.
As well as crucial infrastructure upgrades; the expanded terminal also houses a new basketball court – symbolising both the uniqueness of Kaunas Airport and Lithuania’s passion for basketball.

Infes expanded the building in both directions, adding both new eastern and western sections, with all three levels of the terminal having been fully upgraded. Following the opening of the terminal to passengers, final internal finishing works were carried out.
This summer also saw the completion of the modernisation of the airport’s P4 parking area, which was expanded to almost 10,000 square metres, offering over 370 parking spacces including 14 electric vehicle charging points and 14 spaces for passengers with disabilities.
An additional, 900-space multi-storey car park is also under construction, and is anticipated to open in summer 2026.
