London Gatwick has completed the installation of new security technology allowing passengers to retain liquids up to 100ml, as well as electronic devices, in their bags when passing through security.

The system’s installation is hoped to aid 95% of passengers clear security in less than five minutes.

The airport is gearing up for 900 flights a day during peak August weekends

With 900 scheduled flights each day, Gatwick has stated that it expects busy days on both Sunday 3 and Sunday 10 August, with passenger numbers set to peak on Sunday 17 August.

The airport will serve 224 destinations across 59 airlines, including 160 short-haul flights to Malaga, Barcelona and Palma De Mallorca. Long-haul services include flights to Dubai, Shanghai and Orlando, with 54 services across the season.

Passengers will now be able to experience the newly refurbished 7 million GBP departure lounge when flying from the South Terminal, which has now been fitted with upgraded lighting, expanded seating, quiet zones and a new assistance lounge.

Q2 of 2025 saw just under 11.6 million passengers travel through the airport between April and June 2025.
