London Gatwick Airport (LGW) has proposed three project changes to its Northern Runway plan to further reduce its environmental impact.
The refined proposal follows the submission of its plans to the Planning Inspectorate in July. The new plan includes three discrete changes that will reduce its environmental impact and provide additional design flexibility.
Before these changes are submitted to the Planning Inspectorate, the airport will open a consultation on 13 December so the public, landowners and other stakeholders can provide their views on the new proposal.
If the new plans are compatible with these views, London Gatwick will submit a request to amend its DCO application. The Planning Inspectorate will then decide whether the changes will be included in the detailed examination of the project.
Tim Norwood, Chief Planning Officer, London Gatwick, said:Our engagement with the public and stakeholders to date has been invaluable in helping us shape our Northern Runway plans. However, since the submission of our DCO application, we have identified a number of small improvements we would like to make to our proposal. We are therefore asking for views on three discrete changes to our plans and would welcome any feedback people may want to make.
The three proposed changes are as follows:
- Project Change 1: Increased design parameters for the North Terminal International Departure Lounge proposed southern extension
- Project Change 2: Reduction in the height and change in the purpose of the replacement Central Area Recycling Enclosure (CARE) facility
- Project Change 3: Revision to the Surface Water Treatment Works system
