London Southend Airport has announced that customers will now be able to leave up to two litres of liquid in their cabin baggage following the installation of new security equipment that allows for the upping of the previously imposed limits.

Customers will also be able to leave electrical items such as laptops, iPads and tablets in their baggage thanks to the implementation of the new C3 technology.

The technology, known as C3, also means that all electrical items such as laptops, iPads, tablets and more can remain in a passengers’ bag

As part of a wider security upgrade; London Southend will now screen all passengers using full security body scanners – and be one of the first airports in the world to do so.

A spokesperson for the Department for Transport said:

The process for the screening of passengers is always being improved, and the introduction of the new cabin baggage technology will help airports to ensure that these screening processes are as efficient as possible.

London Southend has stated that as it is one of the first in the world to utilise such technology, passengers flying into the UK from other countries are advised to check with their airline and the overseas airport from which they are travelling from.
