Manchester Airport’s new Terminal 2 security hall is nearing completion following the airport’s 10-year, 1.3 billion GBP transformation.
Its finalisation comes as the airport sets its sights on a busy May half-term, which is expected to see over 1 million passengers fly into or out of the airport between Friday 23 May and Sunday 1 June.

The airport’s transformation, which began in 2015, saw its first major milestone in 2021 with the opening of an extension to Terminal 2, doubling its overall capacity.
The full opening of the Terminal is expected later this year, with recent developments seeing the opening of the first set check-in desks.
The new terminal will provide a new departure lounge, as well as a number of new shops and bars and a new pier 2 section housing several extra gates.
Manchester Airport Managing Director, Chris Woodroofe, said:Seeing the first passengers go into the new security hall is very exciting for everyone here, as it was one of the major milestones we have been working towards since first announcing the transformation 10 years ago
Here at Manchester Airport, we are proud to connect the North to the world and as we take these huge steps towards completing our £1.3bn transformation it means we’re connecting those passengers via an airport terminal that can rival any across Europe.
The new security hall is opening just in time for the May half-term break which is one of the busiest weeks of the year for us – I’m looking forward to hearing what our passengers think of it.
With 10 new lanes, the new security hall is currently operating at half-capacity with five lanes, all of which have been equipped with technology enabling passengers to pass through checkpoints without the removal of electronic items from their hand luggage, as well as retain larger volumes of liquid.
