Miami International Airport (MIA) has reopened a pair of renovated moving walkways at the entrance of Concourse D, marking the 23rd modernisation of a moving walkway, escalator or elevator at the airport thus far this year.

The renovation comes as part of the airport’s 9 billion USD Modernization in Action (M.I.A.) Plan.

A further fifteen conveyance units will be completed by the start of 2026, with the airport aiming to hit an annual record with 38 new and improved units in 2025.

MIA previously replaced 32 conveyance units in 2023 and 2024 combined.

Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, said:

Thanks to the dedicated team members who work tirelessly around the clock, 95% of these units are now operational—a new record for MIA! Through our Modernization in Action Plan, we are laser-focused on upgrading every elevator, escalator, and moving walkway so that travelers enjoy a smoother, more reliable, and welcoming experience at every step of their journey through MIA.

In addition to the replacements; the M.I.A. Plan aims to transform each touchpoint of the passenger journey before 2030, including the renovation of almost 200 public restrooms, upgrades of 75% of the passenger boarding bridges, the opening of the new 2,240-space Ibis garage in December and the completion of Concourse K in 2029.
