Nashville International Airport (BNA) has launched GoodMaps, an indoor navigation platform designed to support passengers moving through the airport independently.

BNA is the first airport in Tennessee to implement this technology, which is intended to provide practical assistance for travellers of all abilities.

GoodMaps functions like a GPS for indoor spaces, providing turn-by-turn directions through audio cues or on-screen text. The system guides passengers to gates, retail and dining locations, parking facilities, and other airport areas. It is particularly beneficial for individuals who are blind or have low vision, helping them navigate the terminal with greater confidence.

Doug Kreulen, president and CEO of the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority said:

The introduction of GoodMaps at BNA marks a meaningful milestone in our ongoing mission to create a more inclusive travel experience for all. This isn’t just a new feature—it’s a reflection of our values. It represents our commitment to listening, innovating, and meeting the diverse needs of everyone who walks through our doors. With smarter, more intuitive navigation, we’re turning promise into action and making travel easier and more welcoming for every passenger.

GoodMaps employs LiDAR scanning, artificial intelligence, and machine learning to create detailed digital maps of the airport. The platform offers narrated descriptions of the terminal environment and supports more than 20 languages, which makes it suitable for international travellers.

The app was developed using inclusive design principles, focusing on the needs of passengers who are blind or have low vision. Its interface delivers seamless navigation with audio prompts and on-screen guidance, allowing users to move around the airport with less reliance on assistance.

Theresa Reno-Weber, CEO of GoodMaps said:

Airports can be challenging to navigate for anyone, and especially for people who are blind or have low vision. By leading the way as the first airport in Tennessee to launch GoodMaps, BNA is setting a powerful example of how technology can remove barriers and make travel easier, safer, and more welcoming for everyone.

The launch is part of the airport’s BNA Cares Program, which supports initiatives in accessibility and inclusion. By integrating GoodMaps, BNA aims to enable passengers of all abilities to navigate the airport independently and safely.

The GoodMaps app is available for free download and provides navigation tailored to individual needs.
