Applications will be accepted until the end of January

Successful applicants will complete 12-15 months of training covering theory and simulation work before being sent to an airport tower located either in the UK or one of NATS’ radar control centres in Swanwick, Hampshire or Prestwick, Ayrshire.

Once posted, applicants will be offered the chance to gain hands-on experience under supervision.

Claire Burton, Head of Operational Excellence and Transformation at NATS, said:

Whether you’re considering a career change or just starting out, being a controller is a fantastic job that makes a difference every day. So, if you’re looking for something fresh and exciting to start 2026, we want to hear from you, regardless of your background or experience.

Trainee controllers are typically offered a starting package of 31,136 GBP per yer, with experienced controllers earning upwards of 100,000 GBP per year.

All tuition is handled via an accredited Level 5 apprenticeship, with NATS offering a lump sum to aid in the payment of associated travel and medical assessment costs for those from lower income backgrounds or with caring responsibilities.
