Five new electric buses have entered service at Oakland Airport (OAK), serving both passenger and employee car parks.
The vehicles, supplied by RIDE, are the first battery-electric buses to enter operation at OAK, marking the start of a decade-long initiative to transition the airport to a 100% zero-emission shuttle bus fleet.

Port of Oakland Director of Aviation Craig Simon, said:We celebrate the introduction of our clean, new electric shuttles here at OAK. We look forward to continuing our path towards an all-electric bus fleet in the coming years.
Passengers and employees that utilize the new state-of-the-art buses can enjoy quiet, spacious, comfortable, and modern vehicle interiors without emissions!
The purchase of the vehicles has been made possible by funding pledged as part of the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Zero Emissions Vehicle (ZEV) programme (1.5 million USD), grants from the California Air Resources Board Clean Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Program (HVIP) (600,000 USD) and the California Energy Commission Energy Infrastructure Incentives for Zero-Emission Project (EnergIIZE) Project (nearly 600,000 USD).
Each electric bus is wrapped in OAK-branded livery stating the benefits of the transition to an all-electric fleet.
The airport is also in the midst of the construction of a new bus charging depot to accommodate its expanding electric vehicle fleet, which is set to include five new Heliox 180kW DC fast chargers on site.
