The Port of Oakland is undertaking a customer evaluation trial of Liberty Defense’s HEXWAVE security system for screening employees at Oakland International Airport (OAK).
This evaluation will trial the use of the HEXWAVE walkthrough security detection portal to seamlessly identify potential threats and improve the airport’s employee screening process.
HEXWAVE uses 3D radar imaging and artificial intelligence to detect metallic and non-metallic threats such as concealed weapons. It allows for rapid, automated screening using a walkthrough portal that does not require people to stop and remove common items such as phones or keys from their pockets.
Douglas Mansel, Aviation Security Manager at the Port of Oakland, said:We are always looking for ways to stay ahead of the curve when it comes to operating the airport securely and efficiently. We were impressed by the HEXWAVE’s detection of threats beyond just metallic ones and its potential to enhance our current employee security screening.
We look forward to working with Liberty Defense and the potential security innovation the HEXWAVE would bring to the airport.
Liberty Defense launched its HEXWAVE system to the market earlier this year following beta trials at Toronto Pearson International Airport.
In addition to HEXWAVE, Liberty Defense provides multiple aviation security solutions, including a High-Definition Advanced Imaging Technology (HD-AIT) body scanner and a shoe scanner.
Bill Frain, CEO of Liberty Defense, said:As airports continue to look at improving screening protocols, the HEXWAVE technology offers a flexible solution that can be quickly deployed and moved to multiple areas inside and outside of facilities. We are thrilled that the Port of Oakland will be working with Liberty Defense to use the HEXWAVE to enhance their employee screening process.
