Oakland San Francisco Bay Airport (OAK) has announced that non-passengers will now be allowed to enter the airport gates to visit or join loved ones as they arrive or depart.

The new OAK Guest Pass Program will allow non-passengers to apply for security clearance in advance online before they visit the airport, allowing non-travelling members of the public to visit OAK on the post-security side of the passenger terminal.

OAK has now become one of the first airports in California to allow such activity.

Kristi McKenney, Port of Oakland Executive Director, said:

We want OAK to become a meaningful experience for all of our visitors, not just a curbside drive-by experience.

The OAK Guest Pass allows families to spend more precious time with their loved ones as they see them off on their next adventure or welcome them home from one.

The introduction of the Guest Pass coincides with a series of major renovations of the airport’s retail spaces and amenities that aim to modernise the on-site customer experience.
