The US Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has awarded 148.3 million USD for 73 airport infrastructure projects. This includes a 61.9 million USD grant to Orlando International Airport (MCO) to expand its existing Terminal C.
This funding is procured through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Airport Infrastructure Grants (AIG) programme, which will provide a total of 15 billion USD over 5 years.
US Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said:The funding we announce today will help 70 airports complete vital infrastructure projects that improve safety and efficiency. This is another example of the Biden-Harris Administration’s commitment to modernising America's aviation system, keeping it safe and efficient for generations to come.
The airports set to receive the most substantial grants include:
- Orlando International Airport in Florida will receive 61.9 million USD to expand the existing Terminal C apron, adding 138,481 square yards to accommodate increased use
- General Edward Lawrence Logan International in Boston, Massachusetts will receive 22.1 million USD to rehabilitate taxiway pavement and lighting systems, as well as enhance the Land and Hold Short Operations systems at four locations
- Dallas Love Field Airport in Texas will receive 13.6 million USD to construct a 36,000 square-foot aircraft rescue and fire fighting building
- Rhode Island T.F. Green International in Warwick, Rhode Island will receive 12 million USD to construct a new 60,000-square-yard cargo apron to accommodate increased use of the aviation facilities
