Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) has opened its new Airport Operations Center (AOC), located in the former Communications Center between Terminals C and D.
The new facility serves as the nerve centre of the airport, consolidating various departments into one centralised location for enhanced efficiency and coordination.
This includes Airport Operations Coordinators, Job Control and Call Center Operators, Systems Control (security), the IT Help Desk, emergency dispatch, and a Lost and Found Office.
The new facility is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including a dynamic video wall with multiple displays to provide real-time data. This data will be tailored to each department’s needs, from air traffic monitoring to gate assignments and aircraft parking.
In addition, the AOC’s advanced air traffic monitoring systems offer live updates on all air traffic in the northeast region, ensuring proactive management of arrivals, departures, and potential diversions.
Chris Dougherty, Vice President of Operations and Security at Philadelphia International Airport said:After years of meticulous planning and construction, we are thrilled to unveil the new Airport Operations Center. This facility represents a leap forward in our ability to manage airport operations seamlessly, ensuring the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and passenger experience.
The AOC is more than just a command center; it's the heartbeat of Philadelphia International Airport. By consolidating key functions and leveraging advanced technology, we can anticipate challenges, mitigate risks, and maintain smooth operations even in the face of adversity.
The new Airport Operations Center is a component of PHL’s commitment to enhancing the passenger experience, safety, and operational efficiency.
