The location decision for the Centralny Port Komunikacyjny (CPK) airport has been formally issued by the Masovian Voivode, head of the Central Polish region.

This development marks a significant progression in obtaining the necessary building approvals for the CPK project and initiates the next phase of Poland’s major infrastructure endeavour.

Situated between Warsaw, Poland’s capital, and the city of Łódź, CPK is planned as a transportation hub integrating air, rail, and road systems.

The location decision covers three main components: airport infrastructure, which includes the terminal, runways, taxiways, and essential services such as border control, customs, and firefighting; a railway system with a central hub connecting three directions; and a redesigned road network in the vicinity of the airport.

Minister of Infrastructure Dariusz Klimczak said:

We now have the location decision for the construction of a modern airport in Europe. This is a critical step in the CPK project, and we are ready to move forward with construction.

As part of the broader CPK programme, the airport is expected to serve 34 million passengers annually in its initial phase, with scalability to accommodate future demand.

The project also includes the integration of high-speed rail (HSR) lines, enhancing connectivity between the airport, major urban centres, and regional transport networks.

The designated area for the airport and part of the railway hub spans 2,585 hectares, approximately half of which has been acquired by the CPK company. A notable achievement in this context is the Voluntary Acquisition Programme, which has facilitated property purchases with cooperation and mutual respect. Over 90% of residential property owners in the area have participated in the initiative.

Dr Filip Czernicki, CEO of CPK, said:

We wanted every family in the future investment area to receive an attractive offer for their property through the Voluntary Property Acquisition Programme (PDN). Nearly 90% of built-up properties have joined the programme, proving that large-scale public projects can be executed in Poland with respect for individuals and social sensitivity.

The location decision ensures that the project is on schedule and enables CPK to soon start submitting building permit applications, with preparations already in full swing.
