Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS) has commenced a major renovation project to upgrade its bus station.
The renovation will transform the bus station into a large, covered site with enhanced connectivity to train platforms and improved amenities for travellers.
The renovation work began this week, with the first phase focused on creating temporary bus stops to ensure uninterrupted service throughout the project.
These stops will be operational by spring 2025, alongside signage and information to help travellers navigate the new setup.
To minimise disruption, the construction area will be fenced off, and shielded walkways will be built to allow travellers to safely pass between the bus and train stations.
The renovation will be carried out in phases, with initial work on the temporary bike shed, cables, and pipes already completed.
To make room for the renovation, some transport services, including app-ordered taxis, crew transport, and coaches, have been moved to the Koepelstraat arrival passage.
The New Bus Station
The new bus station is set to be completed by 2027. It will feature a large, covered island platform with space for 20 bus stops, allowing more buses to operate at once.
This facility will provide travellers with increased waiting areas and improved connectivity between bus and train services. Three new stairways will directly link the bus station to the train platforms below, making transfers quicker and more convenient. The stairs will also be equipped with gates for checking in and out.
In addition, a new bicycle shed with space for 500 bikes will be constructed for travellers and employees. The surrounding roads will also be redesigned to connect seamlessly with the new bus station.
The renovation of Schiphol’s bus station is being undertaken in collaboration with the Amsterdam Regional Transport Authority (Vervoerregio Amsterdam), ensuring that the upgrades meet the needs of the airport and regional transportation networks.
By 2027, the project aims to provide travellers with a more spacious, efficient, and user-friendly bus station, further enhancing the connectivity of Schiphol Airport.
