San Fransisco International Airport (SFO) has announced that the recent Thanksgiving travel period was its busiest on record – both surpassing all forecasts and exceeding pre-pandemic activity.

The airport served over 1.8 million travellers from Thursday, 20 November and Monday, 01 December.

SFO eclipsed its previous record of 1.78 million travellers, which was set in 2019.

Airport Director Mike Nakornkhet said:

The holiday travel season is the ultimate measurement of both travel demand and operational execution.

We are thrilled that this Thanksgiving was our busiest ever, which signals the strength of San Francisco and the entire Bay Area travel market. My thanks go out to our entire SFO team for being well-prepared for this unprecedented level of activity.
